Today's Everyday Fashion: Fit Review
Ann Taylor continues to slay me (in a good way) with their huge discounts online. I tried on the two dresses below in the store, so I could be ready to hit "purchase" when they went on sale. And went on sale they did - I ordered them the minute I got the "extra 70% off sale" email in my inbox! Prices listed are what I paid (scandalously low, I know!), and although I love everything, I did not luck out in the fit department. The top I'm wearing was a steal at $15, but it's huge in the bust and slightly too tight in the waist (when I slouch the top crumples, you can kind of see it in the photos). The pants seem to fit very well at first. My usual test is "are these cutting into my waist?" and they pass with flying colors, without any hint of muffin top. But there seems to be some whiskering in the crotch area, and I'm not sure if that's just how pants look (on a lot of retailer sites everything has been tailored and Photoshopped so it's tough to compare) or maybe they just aren't a good fit on my body. The next size up would definitely be too big.

1. Dress, $39 / 2. Dress, $48 / 3. Jumpsuit, $42
As for the dresses I initially fell in love with? I'm bummed, because I don't think either is going to work on account of fit.
1. The red dress is a gorgeous almost neon color in person and I love the fabric. My usual size in the store was way too big, so I ordered one size down. But unfortunately that one is way too small. Both sizes have a big bubble around the midsection that would need to be taken in to lay more flat like it shows on the model.
2. The beading on the next dress is so beautiful in person. This dress was too small in the hips in my usual size, so I went up a size. And, naturally that one is way too big, with gaping arm holes. Too big is easier to fix than too small, but not sure I want to invest more time and money into tailoring this one. Shift dresses are usually easy for me to find a good fit right off the rack due to their loose nature. Feels counterintuitive to alter one.
3. I ordered this fun jumpsuit because I wanted to finally give a skinny leg romper a try (I wear my wide leg version constantly!). The fit was perfect on this one, I just felt like a really fancy mechanic. I haven't tried a lot of jumpsuits on, so maybe I'm just being a wuss about trying a new silhouette.
In sum... awesome sale (promo is currently extra 40% off sale), love the clothes, but struck out on fit. Wanted to share in case you are planning to order something, too. Hopefully you'll have more luck than I did!
