Today's Everyday Fashion: The Scarf Trick
/Today's catalog photo inspired me to wear a plaid scarf under a belt and I'm so glad I gave it a try! I tried this trick 4 years ago on the blog (here), and I love the way this particular preppy combination came out with the oxford top, tweed skirt and riding boots. The cinched belt really does a great job of defining your waist, but the scarf can also add some unwanted volume to the chest area, especially if the scarf is a thick material. Is this a scarf trick you've ever tried?

Also - an update on post-holiday shopping. I've been to the mall/outlets 3 times since Christmas and each time I was not as successful in scoring major deals as in years past. I hardly bought anything, and several stores I visited were completely empty (!) like they were going out of business - overall there just wasn't much left to buy. Online has been a different story though. For example, both J.Crew and J.Crew Factory are offering an extra 40% off sale prices (code STYLE2015 and EXTRA40, respectively) until 1/7 and 1/6. I ordered a few things from both stores. The sequin top above is only $16 and the shoes are $35! I picked a few of my favorites to share today, but there are tons on both sites with deep discounts. Where have you found the best post-holiday deals this year?
