1. Amour Boutique coral top, $36 (sold out, but this one is similar!)
2. Amour Boutique aztec skirt (sold out!)
    3. Amour Boutique Tiffany shoes, $38 (fit true to size)

I'm so excited to share my latest find with you guys today: a hip boutique with tons of cute stuff online, plus two locations in Alabama! Amour Boutique is the store behind the shoes, coral top and aztec skirt in today's post. I really wish you could see me doing my "I love these shoes" dance, because I love these shoes. I die for the color + the chunky/mod feel. I also flipped when I saw this skirt online and was able to finally check "aztec skirt" off my shopping list! (You may remember I wanted this skirt, but it wasn't what I was expecting in person.)  Add to that one hot coral shirt and you've got three colorful outfits: going out, casual, and a fun work look. Which one is your favorite?

More cute stuff from Amour Boutique!

2. Royal blue peek a boo top, $32
3. Colorful stripes skirt, $26

Today's Everyday Fashion: It's A Boy

Yep, that's a boy in my inspiration photo! I love saving menswear looks for inspiration, but this is the first time I've ever re-created one. I added a couple feminine elements such as a ruffled top and patent heels, but stuck to his overall color palette and I have to say I'm digging it. (I also love his clutch, I want one that's "floppy" like that soon.)

Speaking of purses, I'm holding my latest find. Purses are something I usually mull over before I can decide for sure. The pros and cons list for this one? Pros: it meets my bare minimum standards because it's genuine leather and has gold hardware. I also don't have any purses this color, and it was only $60 (score!) at Ross. Cons: it seems a tad big, and almost like a backpack shape. Anyone care to offer their vote? Also, have you ever been inspired by a menswear look?

Today's Everyday Fashion: Orange + Pink

I've been seeing orange and pink outfit pairings everywhere lately! So this weekend I decided to give it try with my own clothes. I wore this outfit to dinner with the girls on Saturday night. I made one small change - I wore these emerald green earrings (which you can see in the pic below) to add a bit more color. It's a fairly simple look, but so cheerful and I love it. Orange + pink - too much color, or totally your style?

Today's Everyday Fashion: Round 2

Well guys, I made it into the top 2 in the Lauren Conrad blogging contest! I wanted to share the outfits I came up with because white jeans might be my favorite staple ever, and for this challenge I had to use the same three items (jeans, shirt and bracelet) in a look for shopping (left) and a girl's night out (right). I think it's fun to see how much of a difference shoes and accessories can make in an outfit - I'm boho on the left, and Miami chic on the right! Which one is more your style? (Also - this is the last round, so if you have a chance please go here to vote and/or comment. I"ll be very excited if I win so I can give the $500 Kohl's gift card to you guys!)

ps. Tomorrow night (Wed, April 11th) I'm having a gently-used-clothes-from-my-closet sale on Facebook, just like I used to! Pictures will be posted at 8pm EST, 40 items, sizes 0-4, shoes size 10. See ya there!

Today's Everyday Fashion: Last Puzzle Piece

Sometimes adding one new item to your closet is like finding a missing key, or the last puzzle piece. Suddenly, you've got 20 new outfits to wear, just because you added one new thing to your closet! That often happens to me when I buy new shoes, and that was also the case with this striped shirt. I searched for one exactly like it for over a year, bought it a few weeks ago, and this is already my third outfit (see the other two here and here). It's that missing "piece" that makes everything work! What items have you added to your closet that made a huge difference?

Today's Everyday Fashion: Happy Easter!

Happy Easter to those of you who celebrate and a happy Sunday to those of you who don't! :-) I'll be wearing this floral number today to celebrate with family and attend church. I went with brightly colored accessories to make the dress feel more youthful. I think this particular frock is appropriate for many different age groups, but being in my 20's I wanted to make it even more trendy and fun! What are you wearing today? I would love to see your outfit - feel free to share it on my Facebook page!

Today's Everyday Fashion: Silver and Gold

I love mixing silver and gold! I credit J.Crew for the inspiration behind this particular outfit, though. I loved the idea of throwing a gold sequin top under my silver sequin jacket. I think this look is perfect for a work party or even a wedding event, and would suit pretty much any age - from 20's to 80's! Do you like mixing silver and gold?

Let's Discuss: Success

Credit: Stuart Miles / FreeDigitalPhotos.net

“Success” – that elusive, desirable thing that I personally, and I’m sure many of you, are striving to attain. Starting my own brand just under two years ago, I have wrestled with the idea of professional success more times than I can count. What does success really mean? How do I reach it? Here are some lessons I’ve learned along the way:

1. Success is not an end point.
As I celebrated milestones on my blog (10,000 fans in less than year! a segment on national TV!) it became clear to me – there is never, ever a moment in life where you can relax and say “I’ve made it.” Even if I publish a book, I still need sales to do well, and then after the book, I need something else, another project, to sustain that momentum. In other words, it can be a real rat race if you allow it to be. Success is never, ever a destination and you will never be done searching for it. So what’s the trick? The trick is to enjoy the journey. Take every single day and be thankful for what you have in that moment!

2. There is no such thing as overnight success.
Okay, let me re-phrase that: some things may seem like overnight success, but in pretty much every situation, there was a lot of hard work to get to that point. Take Bethenny Frankel for example - Skinny Girl margaritas may seem like a very quick rise to popularity and her reported $10 million check only a year after launch may seem like overnight success to us. But by watching her show, you see that she has been working towards that business idea for something like 10 years. And that she heard “no” more times than she could count. So everyone repeat after me: there is no substitute for hard work! Success takes time and effort.

3. Success is just as scary as failure.
No really, I promise. What happens when someone gives you TV show? Oh right, you actually have to do that TV show!! No pressure! It may seem like you really, really want something but at the moment when it’s time to step up, it can be just as terrifying as failure would have been. There is also a huge responsibility that can come with some types of success – more money means more decisions in life, a huge following means you should conduct yourself properly because you are now a role model. It may seem like rich/famous is the way to go, but most days I’m pretty darn comfortable where I am. And I try to be patient for success knowing I might not be mature enough yet to handle it!

4. Success is a roller coaster.
Every business has ups and downs, but there is one phenomenon you should know about – good and bad usually comes lumped together with other good and bad. In other words, when good things happen, they usually happen in one big chunk, leading you to feel energized and high on life. A few weeks later, everything seems to be going wrong, you receive bad news, and traffic is down. Over time, I have adapted my emotions to minimize the swing as much as possible. I celebrate success, but I also know that that feeling is temporary, and I won’t always be at the top of the roller coaster. And I do the same when I’m down. I don’t let it get to me, knowing that I will be climbing back up another hill soon enough.

5. You have to define success for yourself.
Success means different things to different people, so how you define it is something you have to determine for yourself. I really struggled with this question. I knew money wasn’t my motivator (I waited more than a year to monetize my blog), and while I absolutely love the satisfaction of helping women with fashion, I always felt like my definition of success was helping women on a larger scale. I recently came up with this definition:

"Success (for me) is not a certain number of fans, or money, or people reached, or even getting my own TV show. It's being able to say that I changed fashion journalism. That I made it more accessible, more realistic, less intimating and something all of us feel welcome to enjoy. That I earned the respect for everyday women from the fashion industry."

How do you define professional success? What are some lessons on success you've learned through the years?

Flashback Friday: Last Spring's Top 10

Original post here

I took a look back at last spring, and these are 10 of my favorites! (Plus one from summer 2010.) In a couple of these posts, I dabbled with "color-blocking" and "mixing prints," which makes me giggle, because those trends are so popular now! It's fun going back and seeing how fashion changes from year to year. What trends from last year do you love or hate? Which look is your favorite?

Today's Everyday Fashion: The Country Club

No need to adjust your screen. I am, in fact, wearing a sweater tied around my shoulders. I'm also breaking one of my only fashion rules - don't leave the house in anything that could fit in at a costume party. And this look is borderline Stepford Wives/country club enough that I might be in violation. :-) I'm not going to lie though - this is one of my favorites. I love a super-preppy look like this and the candy colors make me Willy Wonka happy. Tell me - would you wear a super-preppy look like this? Or would a sweater around the shoulders never fly in your hometown?

Today's Everyday Fashion: My Giant Clutch

That's one giant clutch you have there.

Sometimes fashion is silly. I've been on the hunt for the perfect turquoise clutch since last summer and stumbled upon this one at ASOS for only $35. Thinking it was "the one," I excitedly placed my order. But when it arrived I was surprised by it's massive size. (Okay, now I can see that it was a tad big in the photo online, but I was excited okay?!) I love the color combo in today's outfit and think it's a fun way to dress up a plain t-shirt, but sadly the clutch is going back in hopes of finding a similar purse, only smaller. If you have a clutch this size then I not only give you mad props for being able to pull it off, but I also offer up some exciting tips for alternate uses below. Or maybe just to put a smile on your face. ;-)

Giant clutch: ASOS, $35

Shoes: Michael Antonio, $48

Is it bad that I want all 6 of these?

2. Macy's turquoise purse, $60.99
3. Amazon turquoise clutch, $74.99
4. Ann Taylor blue clutch, $98

6. Lori's shoes turquoise clutch, $68.95

Update: I just ordered #2 (fingers crossed it's the right size), and I'm also hoping to find #4 on sale soon!

Today's Everyday Fashion: The Hi-Low Skirt

I have been so intrigued by the hi-low skirt trend. I knew I wanted to try it eventually, and then the Lauren Conrad blogging contest happened and gave me an opportunity to do just that! Here's how I wound up with the outfits above: they sent us 9 items from the Lauren Conrad for Kohl's collection, including this skirt. Our first challenge was to use 3 of the items they sent us (I chose the skirt, shoes and jacket) to come up with two outfits - one for sightseeing and one for a date. They did not ask us to post about it, but since this is my first time wearing a hi-low skirt, I wanted to share it with you! (I'm also hoping you will help me out by voting for me and/or leaving a comment. If I win, I will give away one of the prizes, a $500 Kohl's gift card, to you guys right here on the blog! Please go here to vote and comment.) So, tell me - are you a fan of hi-low skirts? Would you wear these looks?

Today's Everyday Fashion: Dots and Stripes

This was always going to happen. As soon as I saw this photo on Banana Republic's website I knew I would re-create it. (I wore this outfit to church last night.) :-) In general, I'm loving polka dots and stripes together, and I have a really simple formula for making it work. The key is in the background/base color of each piece: you simply have to pair a light piece with a dark piece. So in today's outfit, my skirt is mostly dark (navy), and my top is mostly light (white). Another example, if I had a mostly light (white/ivory) polka dot shirt, it would look good paired with a mostly dark (black/navy) striped blazer or skirt. Have you tried polka dots + stripes yet?

Today's Everyday Fashion: Playing in my Closet

I love spending time in my closet experimenting with new combinations! This neon yellow-orange-purple color scheme popped into my head one day, and I decided to try some different ways to style it. I reached for my gold boat shoes for a "sporty" look (left) first, which I think would work for a picnic, or a mom on-the-go. I then decided to dress it up with heels and a brightly colored scarf, for a nice lunch or a casual meeting (the skirt is probably too short for work). I like both options and think there are many ways to wear it! How would you wear it?

Today's Everyday Fashion: Cobalt + BRINK

How cute is this girl with her leopard purse and khaki neutrals? And I had just the right pieces in my wardrobe to re-create it. :-) Other cobalt jeans outfits I've done so far: with a gray blazer here, with a white blazer here, with a camel blazer here, and a color-blocking outfit here.

Also - I'm in the April/May issue of BRINK Magazine (see bottom photo, so fun!). You can read the full story here, and see last year's men's makeovers here.

Today's Everyday Fashion: Retro Barbie

Last night I attended a Central Florida Lady Bloggers meet-up and this is what I wore! I picked up this dress last week at Nordstrom Rack and it was love at first sight. It has a slight retro feel, but I also get a total Barbie vibe from it. I wanted even more color so I added yellow accents, a mint necklace and patent pink shoes (even though they aren't the exact same shade of pink*, they "go"). It was a fun night and if you live in Central Florida be sure to join our Facebook page for more events!

*One of these days I will master DSLR photography, but in the meantime, my shoes are actually the color in the picture on the left, not the right. :-p

Today's Everyday Fashion: Blazer Conundrum

Here's the thing: I loooove blazers. But they really aren't practical when you live in Florida. I recently picked up this coral stunner during a 50% off promo at Banana. The gold buttons, one of my favorite colors, I was immediately sold. But now I'm not sure about keeping it. On the one hand, I am a believer in making "investments" from time to time (like a designer bag, or even my navy blazer) on items you will love and wear forever. Often referred to as "cost per wear," you can make purchases totally worth it if you wear them enough times. But I'm just not sure if this blazer falls into the fun category, or the classic piece I will love forever category. Sometimes it takes me awhile to decide on an item, and this blazer has me stumped! Have you ever been in a similar situation? Would you keep or return this blazer?

Blazer: Banana Republic, $69
Shirt: Forever 21, $11
Jeans: Gap, $35

Rings: LOFT pink ring $11, My Stella & Dot website $49

2. Arden B coral blazer, $69
3. BB Dakota coral blazer, $79

Today's Everyday Fashion: Quotes

Tonight I'm speaking at UCF and this is what I'm planning to wear! The meeting is for UCF's PR club, Quotes, and I'll be covering a number of topics including how to effectively pitch a blogger and an overview of social media tactics. (See flyer below for details/if you want to come!) I recently put together this look with my new bright blue pencil skirt and it was love at first sight. I love a good green/blue/yellow combo, and the mix of tighter skirt with a much looser top, and overall I think it's professional but still fun enough for a college crowd. Would you wear this look?
