Today's Everyday Fashion: Fresh Denim

Is there really anything better than a fresh new pair of jeans? I love wearing new jeans with a white shirt the first time out of the gate. So a white blouse is exactly what I did on Sunday - plus an ivory necklace, boucle jacket and pointy pumps to match (see another outfit with this jacket and necklace combo here). I've been searching for dark blue skinnies for over a year. I've been stalking discount stores for a designer pair but couldn't find ones I liked. I walked past these at H&M last week (I usually really dislike their jeans on me) and felt compelled to try them on because the color and distressing was perfect. One 20% off coupon later and I'm a happy customer with my $32 jeans. What is your favorite pair of blue jeans? Favorite store for jeans?

Today's Everyday Fashion: Textured Blues

I've been itching to wear these tie dye jeans since my last post with them. I was honestly stumped for awhile - heels and white top for a night out were the only thing I could think of! Luckily this outfit idea popped into my head as I was headed to a casual gathering on Friday. This is my new favorite graphic tee (I'm awkward at taking "back" photos but wanted to show how I layered a racerback tank underneath) and tie dye is rocking my world right now (seriously considering buying the Forever 21 shirt below), so I had fun wearing this outfit. Would you wear tie dye?

Today's Everyday Fashion: Sophie Theallet for The Limited

I'm so excited to share these pictures with ya'll today! Limited got in touch a few weeks back and asked if I would show their navy and black lace Sophie Theallet dress and cardigan in two different looks - one for day and one for night. For day (above), I layered a collared shirt and the cardigan, then added black tights and ankle boots to make the dress more conservative. For night (below), I went glam with a jeweled belt and matching accessories, perfect for upcoming Valentine's Day. I've always been a fan of navy + black, and I'm loving the lace trend right now so this was a fun dress to wear, and I enjoyed experimenting with different photography. Which look do you like better? How would you wear this dress?

New Arrivals to My Closet

Limited / Banana / Gap / Express
Express / Limited / Limited

I hit the mall on Friday and here are just a few things I picked up! Details on what coupons I used are below, and stay tuned for a full budget recap for Jan. and Feb. coming soon. What are your best shopping finds lately?

1. In-store price was $49, and I used a coupon I received in the mail for an additional $15 off.
2. In-store price was $70, plus an extra 25% off sale promo going on in the store.
3. I had a c/o gift card, but used a 40% off Gap cardholder coupon that I received in the mail to lower the price.
4. I used a coupon from the Express website (pulled it up on my phone while I was in the store), so I believe I paid $10 off the full price. (ps. This shirt is way cuter - and more neon - in person!)
5. In-store price was $39, and I used the same Express coupon to get $15 off the sweater. (I did two transactions - changed my mind about the sweater and came up to the register for round two!)
6-7. I unwrapped a piece of chocolate when I entered the store that was good for 40% off everything full-price, which I used on both the belt and this Tory-Burch-esque cardigan!

Today's Everyday Fashion: Valentine's Day

I love Valentine's Day and the past two years my v-day posts have been full of pink and red! (See here.) This year I decided to mix it up a little. I will be wearing this leopard + hot pink ensemble (still undecided on shoes), and I'm also really digging the graphic heart trend, via shopping picks below. What are you wearing on Valentine's Day?

Today's Everyday Fashion: Sunshine

Inspiration: Shabby Apple

I heard that everyone up north is buried in snow so I both apologize for the summery outfit, and hope that it sends you a ray of sunshine! We are having a warm streak (temps in the 80's) and this inspiration photo instantly made me want to try my polka dot top with yellow jeans and necklace. (See below for four additional ways I've worn it.) Also, I've had these shoes for about five years; they aren't the cutest but they make this outfit possible for a long day on my feet! Which polka dot outfit is most your style?

Today's Everyday Fashion: The Mustard Sweater

It was love at first sight when I bought this sweater last year. It has been worn often ever since, and has cute buttons down the back. Here are a few ways I've styled it so far, including one new outfit (bottom pic) that I wore shopping a few weeks ago. Do you have a favorite sweater? Which outfit is your favorite?

Today's Everyday Fashion: Argyle

Inspiration: Piperlime

I had a major thing for argyle about five years ago and that's when I bought this sweater! I haven't worn it for a couple years, but I'm happy I kept it because I plan on adding it back into rotation. A lot of people subscribe to the "toss it if you haven't worn it in a year" rule, but I'm more of a pack rat who holds onto anything I love that might come back into style. I only toss things that don't fit, are too worn or I'm just not digging. Are you a fan of argyle? How do you decide what to keep?

Today's Everyday Fashion: Faux Tee

I am way too amused that "faux tee" sounds like you are saying "forty." (And now everyone just sounded it out in their head!) At any rate... I think the faux leather trend this fall/winter is really fun and I especially love tees like this with just a little leather here and there (sleeves and pocket to be exact). The outfit with jeans and boots is what I run to the grocery store in, and the bottom outfit is an idea for dressing up the same shirt (sorry for the shorts, it was 90 degrees earlier this week). Are you a faux tee fan? Which look is your favorite?

Today's Everyday Fashion: Colorblock Button Up

Inspiration: Jessica Simpson Collection

New purchases: do you wear them right away, or do you save them? I normally wear things right away, but I've been saving this colorblock button down for a couple months now. My theory is that there are so many things I could possibly wear it with, it was hard to pick just one! Regardless, I'm digging the end result of this catalog re-creation and plan to brainstorm even more ways to wear it. How would you wear this top?

Gray, mint and navy polka dots - a fun combo that I spotted on Pinterest and decided to try with my own clothes. How would you wear this combo?

Today's Everyday Fashion: Baseball Sweater

Besides being generally obsessed with baseball shirts right now, this sweater is super nostalgic for me. I had a similar one in high school from American Eagle that was my absolute favorite. I'm also really impressed with the quality, and it's super comfy to boot. I've already worn this outfit twice and plan to repeat further. Are you a fan of baseball-style tops?

Today's Everyday Fashion: Baby Dedication

via Instagram

I wore this to church and lunch for a friend's baby dedication yesterday. I've had this dress and shoes for going on five years, but it felt new again by adding my most recent purchases - an ivory boucle jacket and pearl-like bib necklace. I joked that this was my best first lady look, although the purse and chunky watch kept it young and modern. Would this look work in your everyday life?

Today's Everyday Fashion: Saturday Shopping

Inspiration: Piperlime

I snapped these pictures on my way out the door yesterday! I put together the bottom outfit first. I love this t-shirt and wear it constantly (this is my third blog post with it), but realized it was too hot for boots and a coat, and the boots were looking a tad awkward. I put together the top outfit next, and wore it for shopping and dinner (see another outfit with the skirt here). It was super comfy, and casual but fun. What's your Saturday shopping style?

Today's Everyday Fashion: Blue Velvet

Inspiration: Citizens

Here are two ways I've worn my blue velvet pants so far! Buying these pants was a tough call. On one hand, the fit is amazing and I've always been a big fan of velvet. On the other hand, they are so dark blue they almost look black, and I'm pretty stumped on coming up with too many different ways to wear them. Are you a fan of velvet? How would you wear velvet pants?

Shopping Prep: New Arrivals

I'm so excited to go shopping this weekend! I love this time of year - when stores are full of new arrivals, mostly in spring colors but also plenty of finds that you can wear now. One of my favorite shopping tips is to browse online first. That way you can get the lay of the land, compare prices, and identify what items and stores to prioritize first. After having way too much fun online shopping yesterday, here are some of my favorites that I'll be looking for in stores - what new arrivals are you loving?

Note: As you already know, I don't pay full price. This is my shopping strategy though - identify which items I like when they are first out, and then keep an eye on them until they go on promo/clearance. If the price never drops to what I'm comfortable paying, then I won't buy it. But I try to avoid the "buy it just because it's on sale" conundrum, because these are the items I'm specifically looking for. Planning things out this way helps me make better decisions while bargain shopping!

Today's Everyday Fashion: Color Craving

Inspiration: Caitlin Wilson Textiles

Emerald might be the color of the year, but I've also got a huge crush on cobalt right now! I couldn't wait to put together an outfit based on my inspiration photo with cobalt pants and necklace. I also have bright blue shoes, blazer, etc. on my wish list and plan to add some items like the ones below to my closet this spring. Are you craving cobalt?
